Same models. Different philosophy.

The frontier models are the frontier models. What differs is how you reach them, what you pay for the privilege, and who keeps your work when you're done. Written by the people who make Asset Lab, so we've kept it factual and said where the other side wins.

Side by side

Three ways to reach the same models.

RecommendedAsset Labyour key, your Mac Higgsfield & co.subscription studios Fal.ai playgroundthe raw developer console
Monthly cost $49 once, no monthly fee. Renders bill separately at Fal's raw per-render prices. A monthly plan whether you render or not, with credits that reset at month's end. $0: same pay-per-use billing, since it's the same key.
Cost visibility Live estimate on the Generate button, a receipt on every render, and a running monthly tally. Abstract "credits" per generation, so the dollar cost is deliberately fuzzy. Prices listed per model page; no running total, easy to lose track.
The workflow One studio for everything: compare models side by side, hand an image to video, chain edits, upscale, remix a prompt. Polished, but you work inside their walls and their feature roadmap. One model per page, raw parameter forms, no shared gallery. Built for API developers, not creative sessions.
Your renders Auto-saved to your Mac (~/Pictures/Asset Lab) with prompt, model and cost attached. Yours even offline. Live in their cloud, behind their account, on their terms. Temporary CDN links that expire. Save everything by hand or lose it.
Account & privacy No account, no telemetry. Your key stays in local storage and talks only to Fal. Account required; your prompts and library sit server-side. A Fal account, which you need anyway; it's where your key comes from.
New models Days, not quarters. The catalog is a single file; anything on Fal can be added. Whatever they license, whenever they ship it. Everything on Fal, day one, but each one is another browser tab.
Where it wins Ownership, transparency, local files, plus a DaVinci Resolve edition with no subscription. Proprietary models, one-click camera presets, runs anywhere in a browser. Automation, queues and webhooks: the right tool if you write code.

Coming from Higgsfield?

You've been renting a studio. Asset Lab hands you the keys instead: the same class of frontier image and video models with no plan to pick, no credits expiring on the 1st, and no watching a balance you already paid for tick away. Render a hundred things this month or nothing at all. You owe exactly what you used, at cost. The full Higgsfield comparison →

Already have a Fal.ai key?

Then you've met the playground: powerful, but built for developers. One model per tab, raw JSON parameters, output links that quietly expire. Asset Lab is the creative front end for the key you already own: one prompt box across every model, side-by-side compares, a searchable gallery, and every render saved locally. Same key, same prices, and an actual studio. What the $49 actually buys →

The obvious question

You shouldn't need API docs to make a picture.

Fal.ai is the model infrastructure the frontier labs ship on. It's built for developers, priced by the call, documented like an SDK. That's exactly why we built Asset Lab on top of it: the same engine, with an actual cockpit for people who make things.

Making one shot on fal.ai
  1. Hunt through 800+ API endpoints and guess which model fits the job (they're named like bytedance/seedream/v4.5/text-to-image).
  2. Decipher the parameter form: image_size enums, guidance_scale, num_inference_steps, seed. Hope the defaults are sane.
  3. Generate into a request log. Your output is a temporary CDN link. Download it yourself before it expires, file it yourself, remember what prompt made it.
  4. Want to animate that image? Different endpoint, different tab, re-upload the file, rebuild the settings, start over.
The same shot in Asset Lab
  1. Type what you want in plain English, or hit ✦ Enhance and let it sharpen your prompt for the model you picked.
  2. Pick from a curated catalog: the frontier models that matter, each with an honest one-line description and human controls: aspect chips, one-tap social formats for Instagram, TikTok and X, not enums.
  3. Hit Generate with the price on the button. The render lands in your searchable gallery and auto-saves to your Mac with prompt, model and cost attached.
  4. Click "Use as start frame" and it's a video. Chain edits, extend clips, upscale. No downloads, no re-uploads, no new tabs.

Same models. Same key. Same raw prices.
The $49 buys the thirty seconds between you and the render.
