Fal.ai inside DaVinci Resolve
A DaVinci Resolve AI plugin that uses your own Fal.ai key
Yes. AssetLab Resolve is a $49 one-time Mac app that docks beside DaVinci Resolve, runs frontier AI models through your own Fal.ai key at raw cost, and Auto-drops finished renders onto your current timeline. It works with Resolve Free and Resolve Studio. No subscription, no Asset Lab account, no middle server.

What people mean by “DaVinci Resolve AI plugin.”
Editors who search for one usually want three things, and none of them is “another browser tab.”
- Generate without leaving the cut: prompt a shot, a b-roll insert or a transition from a panel beside the timeline, not a website
- Start from the footage: pull the frame under the playhead straight into image-to-video, an end frame, or an edit
- Get the result back into the edit: finished renders land in the media pool and on the timeline, with no download-and-re-import dance
AssetLab Resolve does all three with the same frontier catalog as the standalone Asset Lab (Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0, Nano Banana 2 and the rest) plus the Audio module, the LUT Creator and Director. Every Generate button shows fal's price for your settings before you click.

The same models. A very different afternoon.
You can already use fal.ai with DaVinci Resolve in a browser, beside it. The models and the per-render prices are identical either way, because AssetLab Resolve calls fal with your own key and adds no markup. What changes is everything between the idea and the clip on your timeline.
One shot, by hand
- Park the playhead and export a still from Resolve to use as a start frame
- Open the model's page on fal, upload the still, fill in the parameter form
- Check the model's pricing notes and do the per-second math yourself
- Wait, then download the MP4 from the request history
- Import it into the media pool, find it, drag it onto the timeline
- Repeat for every take, every angle, every transition
One shot, from the panel
- Hit Grab frame, and the frame under your playhead becomes the start frame
- Pick a model from a curated picker; describe the shot
- The exact price for your length and resolution is on the Generate button
- Generate. The render saves to your project's folder
- Auto-drop imports it into an “Asset Lab” bin and appends it to the timeline you're on
- Every take stays in the Gallery; → Timeline sends any of them to the cut later
| Working in… | fal.ai directly, beside Resolve | AssetLab Resolve |

| Renders into the edit | Download, import, drag | Auto-drop into an Asset Lab bin and onto the current timeline |
| Transitions | Build start/end frames by hand | AI transitions from clip A's last frame and clip B's first |
| Multi-shot pieces | Assemble the takes yourself | Director: shot list, takes, narration, music mix, transitions, one exported cut |
| Voice & music | Separate endpoints, separate downloads | 272 voices, cloning, six music models, score-to-picture, dropped onto an audio track |
| Color | None | LUT Creator: any reference still → a fitted 33-point .cube in Resolve's Color page (≈ 12¢) |
| Knowing the price | Read each model's pricing notes | The exact estimate on every Generate button, before you click |
| Automation & code | Full API, queues, webhooks | Not the tool for that |
The honest version: if you script your pipeline or only need the odd clip, fal.ai directly is free and excellent. Use it. If you generate inside real edits, week after week, AssetLab Resolve is fal's catalog at the same prices with the round trip to the timeline taken out. What it does beside your timeline.
- Auto-drop: finished renders import to an Asset Lab bin and append to the timeline you're on
- Grab frame: the playhead frame becomes a start frame, an end frame, or an edit source
- AI transitions: clip A's last frame and clip B's first frame, a prompt for the move, and the generated transition drops into the cut
- Director: plan up to sixteen shots, narrate them in one voice over a music bed, export one cut; only the finished cut lands on your timeline. Every cut comes with its own subtitles, written beside it as an .srt and embedded in the file
- Edit on a canvas: a grabbed frame fills the workspace, zooms and pans, and swaps against the original at the same zoom. Paint a mask and every pixel outside your stroke is the frame you grabbed
- Score-to-picture: point the scorer at a clip and get music written to its pacing, dropped onto an audio track
- LUT Creator: any reference still into a real 33-point .cube (≈ 12¢, once), installed into the Color page

Is it a plugin, or a separate app?
A native, Apple-notarized Mac app that talks to Resolve's timeline. In practice it works like a plugin panel docked beside your edit. On free Resolve, a one-click bridge script under Workspace → Scripts connects it; on Resolve Studio it connects directly. Your Resolve install isn't rewritten beyond that bridge.
Renders bill to your Fal.ai key at fal's raw rates (most images 3–7¢, short clips roughly $0.30–$5), and the exact estimate sits on the Generate button before you click. Same license terms as the standalone studio; own either edition and add the other for $19.

DaVinci Resolve AI plugin: FAQ
Is there a DaVinci Resolve AI plugin that uses Fal.ai?
Yes. AssetLab Resolve is a $49 one-time Mac app that docks beside DaVinci Resolve and runs frontier image, video and audio models through your own Fal.ai API key at fal's raw prices. Finished renders import into an Asset Lab bin and append to your current timeline automatically.
Does it work with the free version of DaVinci Resolve?
Yes. It works with both Resolve and Resolve Studio. On the free edition a one-click bridge script, run from Workspace → Scripts, connects the app to your timeline. No Studio licence required.
Is it cheaper to use fal.ai directly?
Per render it's identical: AssetLab Resolve calls fal with your own key and adds no markup. The $49 buys the workflow around the models: frames grabbed off the timeline, the price on every button, renders dropped onto the cut, Director, the Audio module and the LUT Creator. See the rate card for every model's price.
Which AI models can I use inside Resolve?
The same catalog as the standalone Asset Lab: 27 image models and 40 video models, including Seedance 2.5, Kling 3.0, Veo 3.1, Wan 3.0, FLUX 3 and Nano Banana 2, plus image, video and lip-sync editors, and the Audio module's voice, music, sound-effect and score models.
Does AssetLab Resolve run on Windows?
No. The Resolve edition runs on Apple Silicon Macs and 64-bit x86 Linux. The standalone Asset Lab studio has a Windows build available by request.
