Debian, Ubuntu, Mint, Pop!_OS
Install the .deb: sudo apt install ./Asset-Lab-2.6.0.deb. It registers the launcher, pulls in dependencies and sets up the app's sandbox — including the AppArmor profile Ubuntu 23.10+ needs.
Fedora, Arch, openSUSE, the rest
Use the AppImage: chmod +x Asset-Lab-2.6.0.AppImage, then run it. Nothing is installed system-wide; delete the file and it's gone.
Then paste two keys
Your Asset Lab licence key and your own Fal.ai API key — the app walks you through creating one in about five minutes. Both stay on your machine.
The parts a port usually gets wrong.
- The Chromium sandbox stays on. The
.debsets the sandbox helper up correctly and loads an AppArmor profile on Ubuntu 23.10+, where unprivileged user namespaces are restricted by default. - Wayland is a first-class session. The app picks Wayland or X11 to match your desktop, so fractional scaling stays sharp instead of blurring through XWayland.
- Key capture that respects Wayland. Wayland stops background apps reading the clipboard, so the guided Fal.ai connect picks up your key when you switch back to the app. Pasting by hand always works.
- A proper launcher entry. The icon, the taskbar grouping and the app menu entry behave like any other desktop app.
- Your renders are files. Every image and clip saves to
~/Pictures/Asset Lab, organized into folders that match your projects. No cloud library, no export step. - Your keys stay local. The Fal.ai key is stored on your machine and sent nowhere except directly to Fal.ai; the licence is checked only with Gumroad.
- No account, no telemetry. Asset Lab has no account system, no analytics and no server of ours between you and the model.
- No signing hoops. There is nothing to trust-prompt or notarize on Linux — install the package and run it.

GPUs required
Renders run on Fal.ai's cloud and bill to your own Fal account at their published rates — most images are 3–7¢. A five-year-old laptop makes the same 4K frames as a workstation.

Asset Lab on Linux
Which Linux distributions does Asset Lab run on?
Any 64-bit x86 (x86-64) Linux desktop. There is a .deb for Debian, Ubuntu, Mint and
Pop!_OS, and an AppImage for Fedora, Arch, openSUSE and everything else. ARM machines are not
supported.
Do I need a GPU to run Asset Lab on Linux?
No. The models run on Fal.ai's cloud, not on your machine — Asset Lab sends the request with your own Fal.ai key and saves the result to your disk. Any x86-64 machine that runs a modern desktop is enough; there are no NVIDIA drivers, CUDA or model weights to install.
Should I use the .deb or the AppImage?
The .deb if you're on Debian, Ubuntu, Mint or Pop!_OS: it registers the launcher,
pulls in dependencies and sets up the app's sandbox, including the AppArmor profile Ubuntu
23.10 and later need. The AppImage for every other distribution. The
Linux Setup Guide covers both.
Does Asset Lab work on Wayland?
Yes. The one difference is during setup: Wayland does not let background apps read the clipboard, so the guided Fal.ai key connect picks up your key the moment you switch back to Asset Lab rather than the instant you copy it. Pasting the key by hand always works too.
Is the Linux version a separate purchase?

Is the Linux build the same app as the Mac one?
Yes — the same version (2.6.0), the same 53-model catalog, storyboards, Director, the Edit tab and the Audio module. Nothing is held back on Linux.
