AI storyboard generator: plan the shots, then generate the sequence

Asset Lab's storyboard plans a scene from your own characters and location, draws a consistent still for every shot, and lets you approve the whole board before you spend anything on video. It's part of the Director tab in Asset Lab 2.6, on Mac and Linux and inside DaVinci Resolve.

An Asset Lab storyboard contact sheet: one planned scene drawn as a row of cinematic stills with the same characters in every frame
A real board from Asset Lab 2.6: the same cast, wardrobe and set in every frame, before a second of video is paid for.

The problem: rolling the dice on video

Prompting video shot by shot and hoping they match is expensive. Every miss is a paid clip, and a multi-shot piece multiplies the misses: the face drifts, the jacket changes color, the set moves. You end up paying for takes you throw away.

A storyboard fixes that the way it always has on real productions: decide the shots first, then shoot them. In Asset Lab a still costs about 12¢, so getting the picture right as a still is the cheapest place to make changes.

How Asset Lab's storyboard works

  1. Cast. Save your characters and a location once. Details you write on a character (hair, clothes, accessories) override the photo; the face always comes from the photo.
  2. Plan the shots. In Director's "The story," pick the characters, the location and any featured objects, write a brief and choose a shot count. Plan shots writes the shot list (framing, angle, action, the line and who says it, and what each shot hands to the next) for about 2¢.
  3. Draw the stills. Each shot gets a Scene Still Frame drawn from the characters actually in it, plus the scene's first approved still and the one before it, so faces, wardrobe, set and grade hold across the board. About 12¢ a still at 2K. Generate All does the board in order; every version is kept, and an approved still is never overwritten.
  4. Review and share. View the approved stills as a contact sheet or a production board, with description, framing, location and duration per frame, and export it as a PNG or PDF.

Watch it work

From storyboard to finished sequence

Once the board is approved, there are two routes to video:

  • Shot by shot. Each approved still becomes the opening frame of its shot, on any video model you choose, from budget tiers to Seedance 2.5.
  • Whole board → Seedance. The sheet goes as one reference for a single multi-shot draft, about 30¢ a second at 720p. It's a fast way to see the whole scene move.

Then finish in Director: approve a take per shot (up to sixteen), give each character their own voice or use one narrator, lay music, set the mix, pick transitions and fades, and export one cut to your gallery and disk.

Inside DaVinci Resolve

In AssetLab Resolve, the same storyboard stage docks beside your timeline in Resolve Free or Studio, Mac or Linux. With Auto-drop on, stills and takes stay in the Asset Lab gallery and only the exported cut lands on the timeline, so your edit doesn't fill up with drafts. A Premiere Pro edition with the same stage is in beta.

$49 once. Then pay only for what you generate: images from under a cent, 5-second video clips from about 25¢. No monthly fee, no credits that reset each month. A six-shot storyboard costs about a dollar in renders; the exact price is on every button before you click.

Questions

AI storyboards

What is an AI storyboard generator?

A tool that turns a scene description into a shot list and a picture for each shot. In Asset Lab it works from your saved characters and location, so the same faces, wardrobe and set hold across the board.

How much does a storyboard cost?

About 2¢ to plan a scene and about 12¢ a still at 2K, billed to your own Fal.ai key, so a six-shot board is about a dollar. The app is $49 once.
